L.A. Noire Sequel Could Be Rockstar’s Next Big Game After GTA 6, According to Rumor
It seems that Rockstar Games is still not done with the detective world of L.A. Noire. An old rumor from 2023 has resurfaced, claiming that the studio could begin work on a L.A. Noire sequel after GTA 6 with a completely new setting and one of America’s most famous unsolved mysteries at the center of the story. Check out all the details below.
L.A. Noire 2 Rumored to Follow After GTA 6 With a Zodiac Killer Story
According to an anonymous post on GTAForums, the rumored L.A. Noire sequel would move the action from 1940s Los Angeles to San Francisco and could revolve around the infamous Zodiac Killer case. The game was allegedly in early development in 2023 and was reportedly targeting a release around 2030.
If the rumor is accurate, Rockstar could also be planning a major upgrade to the facial animation technology that made the original L.A. Noire stand out. The first game famously used MotionScan to capture actors’ facial performances. The alleged project is said to push that technology even further, with the ambitious goal of creating some of the most realistic character visuals seen in a game.
The renewed attention comes partly from claims made by the same anonymous source about GTA 6. Some details posted in 2023, including alleged information about character relationships, criminal profiling, and the game’s development, have since attracted attention because of similarities to information that surfaced later.
However, that does not confirm the existence of L.A. Noire 2. The same source reportedly discussed an early version of GTA 6 featuring four protagonists, a detail later referenced publicly by Rockstar’s Rob Nelson. That connection has encouraged fans to revisit the poster’s older claims, but it remains circumstantial evidence rather than confirmation.
There have also been other pieces of speculation over the years. A soundtrack reportedly appeared on YouTube in 2020 under the name “L.A. Noire Part Two” before allegedly being removed following a copyright claim from Take-Two.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has also previously said the company wants to do something with its various intellectual properties, although he did not specifically announce a new L.A. Noire game.
For now, L.A. Noire 2 remains firmly in rumor territory. But a Rockstar detective game set in San Francisco and built around the Zodiac Killer is certainly an idea that could get fans talking while they wait for GTA 6.
